Circular Momentum
Community Train Station, South Pasadena
A community rail station in South Pasadena that is both a transportation hub and a cultural space, with a cultural heritage center. The parti is velocity: the train rushing through the old town pushes against the building, and the building stops that movement as a place anchored in time. Layered vertical and horizontal paths, framed views toward the Arroyo and the San Gabriel Mountains, and courtyard atriums for daylight and fresh air shape the design, drawing on Louis Kahn's National Assembly Building and Daniel Libeskind's Royal Ontario Museum.
